Interview Question, Exception Handling Approach

I was reading an article the other day about exception handling, specifically checked exceptions. After thinking about this concept of wasting time dealing with handling of exceptions, I thought I would drop a similar question in an interview recently.

Basically, the question is open ended, "Can you describe a logging and exception handling approach you implemented in a reason project?". What I am interested in hearing is how the developer thinks about handling failure and reporting that failure. I don't care about specific logging frameworks, just a process of how to fail, or given the article reference, whether to consider failure at runtime at all.

Any interesting response will win me over, but the answer I got was, "Oh, well, I would use log4j". This was not an interesting response.
